Enjoy the thrill of sitting in an ancient theatre watching timeless classics that have inspired generations or take in a more modern play with magical messages that ring true in every generation.
History
Shakespeare may be linked with Stratford on Avon, but the truth is that his company built one of the most famous theatres in London and it's one that you can still catch performances of the Royal Shakespeare company at. The Globe Theatre is one of the most famous Theatres in existence. But it's only one of many where you can see London plays.
Those that started life as something else.
Many of the plays and musicals on stage in London started life as something else completely. They often give not only a great performance but an insight into what life is really like.
Here's a few examples
Phantom of the Opera (one of the most successful musicals ever written) that built on the great success of the original Romantic Novel of the same name, written by Gaston La Roux. An inspiring tale of Love and the cost of following your heart. The Novel was turned into a Musical by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and has been one of the most successful musicals ever written.
Phantom of the opera, London is still being performed with live shows on Mondays to Saturdays starting at 7.30pm and Matinee performances on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Magical stories about the ability of the Human spirit to rise above circumstance and achieve their dreams. One a romantic story based on a timeless classic and the other a story that all the family will enjoy.
The
Warhorse National Theatre production is one of the most exciting plays in London at the moment it's a play about a horse that finds itself being shipped to the front lines at the outbreak of the war and the things that happened to it. This play has been getting rave reviews and the advice is to get there early.
One thing is sure about the West End. The plays there are world class and are performed by some of the greats of both theatre and the big screen. Many of the greats of British cinema started their working lives on the stage.
Imagine sitting in the seats at the historic globe and watching one of the great Shakespearean plays being performed live on stage, then realising that you are sat in a pretty close reconstruction of the theatre that "the bard" himself used to be a partner in!
Finding the tickets to the plays isn't really a problem as many of them can either be bought at the theatre or you can look them up over the net and book online. Or better yet, you can book through your travel agent.
Conclusion
But just going to the Theatre is only part of the thrill, those going also want to make sure that they get good seats. It's no good going if you're going to be stuck behind a pillar and not see a thing! Or even worse being sat so far back that you can't see the stage too clearly.
The wide variety of
London plays means that there is literally something for everyone. From the most traditional play to that of the most modern, from the great comedies to that of the spine chilling thriller.
Good seats are hard to come by. And you need to be aware that they do not come "Cheap" but they are worth their weight in gold! Something to be enjoyed as part of that trip of a lifetime.
A good seat watching a good play is something to be savored right to the last curtain call.
